Hello SARC and W7SAA groups.io subscribers,
As you might have read, from a previous post, the Oregon CF Cycle for Life needs our club’s safety communications expertise for this year’s Cycle for Life ride. This event is scheduled for July 23, 2022. This event is 11 days away.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with Allison Bailey-Nouri. Allison is your main contact for this event (phone number available upon request) and she very much looks forward to our club’s ability to provide the necessary safety radio communications support, between the event’s Home Base and the Rest Stops, on each of the cycle routes. The nature of the safety traffic will range from possible emergencies to rider location, rider count, direction relaying and so on.
Our club has performed this important service before and I am sure there is a protocol we have developed for such an event. If we have that information or procedure written down, I welcome you to please share it with the club and me. If we do not have a standard operating procedure for this type of volunteer work, I offer these basic initial thoughts and encourage more from you.
We will need, at a bare minimum 6 volunteers. Last event, we supplied 9 (see “thank you” below):
1 operator is stationed at the Home Base. Hours 07:00 – 12:30 (or last cyclist through)
2 operators are stationed on the two Rest Stops for the Short Route. Hours 07:00 – 11:00 (or last cyclist through)
3 operators are stationed on the three Rest Stops for the Long Route. Hours 07:00 – 12:30 (or last cyclist through)
All SARC volunteers are encouraged to stay for the catered lunch and live music, on the finish line at the completion of the ride.
OPTIONAL Volunteers are needed from 06:00 – 08:30 (set up, registration, check-in, breakfast service). **Breakfast included**.
OPTIONAL Volunteers are needed from 10:30 – 15:00 (lunch set up, lunch service, tear down and clean up). **Lunch included**.
With those initial thoughts in mind, are there at least 6 members who would like to volunteer their time, use their gear, coordinate a frequency plan and provide radio communications for this event? Ideally, Allison would appreciate 9 volunteers.
Please email KJ7NUX@gmail.com if you are able to volunteer for any of these shifts, as soon as it is convenient for you. I am scheduled for surgery on July 18th and I would like to be able to let Allison know of our commitment by the 17th of this month.
!! THANK YOU !!
Allison and the club would like to thank these members for their help and service on the last event: Al Partain, KG7KUE; Richard Noble, KD7ODP; Carl Engstrom, KF7BBR; Michael Barnes, WA7SKG; Heather Noble, KD7JAA; Roger Williamson, KC7BRZ; Steve Troyer, N7SWT; Fred Dalzell, KI7BCL and Dustin Vandoren, KI7SYO.
